- The lock is seized
If you place the key in the lock but could not turn it then your lock is seized. This mainly happens because of the presence of dust and filth in the locks which make it hard to turn the keys. In this case, you are required to make the lock mechanism dirt free. Take a moist cotton mop, put it in the keyhole and twist it to get the dust out of the same. Once you have cleaned the keyhole, the next step is to lubricate it. Utilize the silicon and graphite spray rather than the oil to make the lock smooth. Make sure that the lubricant is evenly distributed in the entire section of the keyhole.
- Frozen lock
Due to the cold weather, the locks get a jam. In such circumstances, warm up the key using a radiator or by placing it in the bowl containing hot water. Insert the key into the hole to prevent the jam.
- Key turns but the lock don’t function
Sometimes the inserted key turns in the lock but the lock bolt doesn’t open. In such cases, you need to examine the whether the parts of the locks are worn out or not functioning properly. Although you can replace the few parts of the locks, it is advisable to get a new lock as replacing the parts may be expensive and require efforts than opting for a new one.
